Providing Foundational Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) Education to 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Students

THE ADVENTURE BEGINS

Narrative
(Kindly note: this website is in the informative stage and will become a depository for our lesson plans, assessments, handouts, and all other assets after our organization has been established)

We are an education nonprofit startup organization that wants to offer Elementary School students at all Socioeconomic Status (S.E.S.) levels rewarding and memorable Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) lessons to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students at no cost to their school.

Our vision is to provide every school with instructors that will deliver high quality S.T.E.M. lessons at the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade level. The 3rd grade classes will use paper worksheets. The 4th and 5th grade students will receive educational kits from a third party vendor.

The 3rd grade curriculum will cover the “M” in S.T.E.M., where students learn about foundational mathematics, with topics ranging from the Multiplication Table to adding and multiplying fractions to calculating volume and surface area.

The 4th grade curriculum will cover the “T” and “E” components of S.T.E.M. Students will assemble various models and conduct experiments while learning about the foundations of technology and the principles of engineering design.

The 5th grade classes will focus on the “S” part of S.T.E.M. where students will be introduced to the foundations of science by conducting many experiments in chemistry, biology, and physics.

These Project–Based Learning (PBL) activities will test the student at following instructions, working collaboratively with a partner, completing a task, and demonstrating their achievement to their peers. It is envisioned that students will progress from 3rd grade foundational mathematics to 4th grade foundational technology and engineering, then on to 5th grade with foundational science PBL projects. By the time these students have exited 5th grade, they will have completed a basic S.T.E.M. curriculum that will better prepare them for the next step in their educational adventure, namely, middle school.
